EDP vs EDT vs Extrait: What Changes in Manufacturing?

By AROMAMATRIX Project Team

Detailed view of perfume liquid compounding equipment, relevant to EDP vs EDT vs extrait

EDP, EDT and extrait are useful positioning terms, but they do not guarantee one universal fragrance percentage or performance level. The formula, materials, carrier and market convention matter.

Concentration is a formulation decision

More concentrate can increase material cost and change diffusion, color, solubility and dry-down. It does not automatically make every composition perform better. Some formulas feel clearer at a lower dosage; others need reformulation when moved to extrait strength.

Specify the product, not only the label

Agree the intended dosage, carrier system, bottle size, spray delivery and claims. Evaluate samples at the proposed concentration and keep the approved formula reference. Destination-market label and safety review should use the actual composition rather than assumptions attached to “EDP” or “extrait.”
