Perfume MOQ Explained: Why Minimum Order Quantities Change

Perfume MOQ is not always set by the filling line. In many projects the real minimum comes from a printed carton, decorated bottle, custom cap or fragrance development batch. Understanding which supplier creates the constraint is the key to planning a realistic first order.

One product can contain several different minimums

A factory may be able to fill 500 bottles, while the box printer requires 1,000 cartons and the bottle decorator requires a larger run for a stable coating color. You may therefore receive 500 finished perfumes plus spare packaging, or need to increase the finished quantity. Ask the quotation to show the MOQ for each custom component rather than presenting only one number.

Does MOQ apply per scent or to the total order?

This must be confirmed before planning a collection. Different fragrances require separate compounding, filling identification and batch control. Different artwork creates separate printing setups. Sharing the same bottle does not automatically allow three scents to be combined into one MOQ.

Combining variants is more feasible when they share the same bottle, pump, cap and undecorated carton structure. Even then, the fragrance and artwork quantities still need factory review.

How to make a smaller pilot more feasible

• Choose an in-stock bottle and standard pump rather than opening a new mold.
• Use labels or simple printing instead of multi-process decoration.
• Keep one bottle size and packaging structure across the range.
• Launch fewer fragrances and place the budget behind one well-tested product.
• Accept that a smaller run may have a higher unit price.

When comparing manufacturers, ask what physically determines their MOQ. A clear explanation is more valuable than an unusually low number that cannot support the packaging shown in the quotation.
